It is now confirmed that a Shadow of the Colossus film is in development with Sony Pictures penciling in the director and producer spots.
Deadline confirmed that Chronicle director Josh Trank will helm the project with Kevin Misher producing. Sony is currently interviewing writers to pen the Playstation 2 masterpiece.
An adaptation of the film has been in the works since 2009 where screenwriter Justin Marks was in talks to write the script. However, since then, the film has been in development hell.
Trank already has a busy schedule after his widely popular hit Chronicle from a few months back. The up and coming director has been in talks to reboot the Fantastic Four series as well as direct a Venom feature film, chronicling the life of the Spiderman villain.
With the fairly poor track record of film adaptations of video games, I am a bit worried how a Shadow of the Colossus film will turn out. The game itself remains one of my favorite games of all time, and I would hate to see it ruined because of Holly-weird’s treatment of the material.
